Dad in the hospital

May 1st, 2006 by Bas

My dad had an operation today, and everything went okay. So good news today. Just a few days to recover and they let him go home again.

Till now he had a lot of bad luck, diabetic, loosing sight, lost a leg, lost a few toes on the other foot, so lets hope this was the last thing.

Update: Dad’s back home, and all is well, little bit of pain, but he will survive.

Queensday 2006

April 29th, 2006 by Bas

queensday.jpgQueens day in Holland, for the non-Dutch this requires an explanation. On Queensday we celebrate the birthday of our queen. We do this with a big street party. Lot of music, booze, and crazy people wo dress in orange, the color of our royal house. And people are allowed to sell stuff on the vrijmarkt (free market), so everybody empty his cellar and sells a lot of crab in front of their house. And with the money they make the buy other peoples crab. Does it still make sense?

Koninginnedag_3m_egr.jpg

But there is an other catch to queensday, and to be honnest i must explain this: We celebrate the birthday of our queen, but actually it is the birthday of the mother of the queen. which is on the 30th of April. So we celebrate the birthday of the queen on the birthday of the mother of the queen, but this year the 30th of April is on a sunday, so because of religion we celebrate it the day before. So this year, we celebrate the birthday of our queen on the day before the birthday of the mother of the queen. Does it still make sense? Nah, we just found an excuse to party….

Movie: 16 Blocks

April 28th, 2006 by Bas

16blocks.jpgPlot: In 16 blocks, Bruce Willis plays Jack Mosley, a burnt-out detective assigned the unenviable task of transporting a fast-talking convict (Mos Def) from jail to a courthouse 16 blocks away. However, along the way he learns that the man is supposed to testify against Mosley’s colleagues, and the entire NYPD wants him dead. Mosley must choose between loyalty to his colleagues and protecting the witness, and never has such a short distance seemed so long…

Review: Good to see Willis on the screen again. Very entertaining movie, with more then enough action. Very nice twist at the end, and some humor too.

Coffee in the morning

April 28th, 2006 by Bas

cat.jpgFound this picture on the net, and recognized the feeling, there is no life before coffee! Everyday starts with a double homemade esspresso. Dunno what it is but my body refuses to operate without the caffeine.

Might got something with it being a drug: Caffeine is defined as a drug because it stimulates the central nervous system, causing increased heart rate and alertness. Most people who are sensitive to caffeine experience a temporary increase in energy and elevation in mood.

Ah who knows, it taste good and it keeps me alive…

Movie: Paradise Now

April 28th, 2006 by Bas

paradisenow.jpgPlot: The story places two close friends, Palestinians Said and Khaled, recruited by an extremist group to perpetrate a terrorist attack in Tel-Aviv, blowing up themselves. However, things go wrong and both friends must separate in the border. One of them, maintaining in his purpose of carry the attack to the end, and the other will have his doubts about it.

Review: Great movie, I love the tension that exists between the different characters and  the cganging views to life. And how the doubts shift. A shame it didn’t win the Oscars, and a shame that politics are still not put aside when they divide the oscars, in other words, it should have won, Great movie and worth watching.
